Garden gates · side gates · wooden gates · fitted · Newcastle
We build and hang wooden garden gates across Newcastle and the North East, usually to match a new closeboard fence. Side gates, back-lane gates and gates for new-build gardens, made to fit your opening and hung on solid posts so they don't drop or drag.
What makes a gate last
- Proper gate posts: we hang gates on heavy 6x6 gate posts set in post mix, not on fence posts
- A braced frame: so the gate stays square and doesn't sag
- Treated timber boarded to match your fence
- Good hinges and a latch or bolt that suit how you'll use it
Popular gate jobs
- A side gate between the house and the fence
- A back-lane gate in a terrace or Tyneside flat yard
- Replacing a dropped or rotten gate, and the post it hangs on
- A gate as part of a new fence: see fence building
Hanging a gate yourself?
Start with the post. Our 6x6 gate posts (2.4m) are £35 each, set in two to three bags of post mix. Matching fence boards and rails are in the shop, delivered from next day or ready to collect.
Gate questions
Why has my gate dropped?
Usually the post is moving or rotten at the base, or the gate frame has no brace. Fixing the post comes first.
How wide can a single gate be?
Most single garden gates are up to about 1.2m wide. Wider openings usually need a pair of gates.
Do you sell gates on their own?
Not online. We build and fit gates, so tell us the width and height for a price.
