Timber or composite decking?

  • Timber decking: costs less up front and has a natural look. It needs a clean and a fresh coat every year or two to stay at its best.
  • Composite decking: costs more to start with, but needs very little upkeep, won't splinter and keeps its colour far longer. See composite decking.

Not sure which suits your garden? Pick "Not sure" in the form and we'll talk you through both.

What's included when we build your deck

  • Clearing and levelling the area, with a weed membrane underneath
  • A strong, level frame on posts or footings
  • Your choice of timber or composite boards, cut and fixed
  • Steps, handrails and lighting if you want them
  • Taking away the waste and any old decking

How decking prices work

Every deck is priced on its own. The things that change the price most are the size, how high it sits off the ground, what's there now (grass, a patio, old decking or a slope), timber or composite boards, and extras like steps and handrails. Answer the questions in the form and we'll send you one price for the whole build.

Decking questions

How much does decking cost in Newcastle?
It depends on the size, the height, the ground and the boards you choose. Timber costs less up front; composite costs more but needs very little looking after. Fill in the form for a price for your garden.

Which lasts longer, composite or timber?
Composite boards don't rot or splinter and need very little upkeep. Timber decking lasts well when it's treated and looked after, with a clean and a fresh coat every year or two.

Can you build decking on uneven or sloping ground?
Usually, yes. A raised frame on posts levels out a slope. Pick "Sloping ground" in the form and we'll ask for a photo if we need one.

Is the timber treated?
Yes. The frame timber and timber decking boards are treated.

Do you fit steps and handrails?
Yes. Tick them in the form and we'll include them in your price.

Do I need planning permission for decking?
In England, decking or a platform more than 30cm above the ground usually needs planning permission. Ground-level decks usually don't. If you're unsure, check with your local council.

Do you sell decking boards on their own?
Not at the moment. We price decking as a full build.
